It's playing well for me now, after a lot of trouble yesterday even as late as 1am PST. So either the demand is less now or they've cranked up the power or both. Nice to finally see it.

This guy and his company are freaking really stupid. Don't buy a blender from them, let's all boycot them.
I hope that this guy looses his job, and I hope that this company goes out of business. Take the thousands of dollars that they they have spent destroying perfectly good stuff and donate to someone that has dreams of being able to afford one of these!
Just stupid. I hope that mac rumors pulls this whole thead down!
This guy actually owns the company apparently, according to other posters, and they blend quite a lot of devices, so he's not going anywhere, so don't worry about that!
Its not stupid, its actually very good advertising - and Macrumours has given them plenty! They got free advertisements from quite a lot of websites due to this one advert!
When I buy a blender I want to make sure it doesn't choke on an egg, so this advert goes a long way to show that these Blenders have the power necessary.

If the school confiscates your laptop, you go to the police and file charges. FOR WHAT, ENFORCING SCHOOL RULES?
And the school is in big trouble. Technically what they did was stealing. They have absolutely no right confiscating anything. THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO CONFISCATE ON THEIR PREMISES IF THEY BELIVE ITS A RISK TO THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE.
What they can do is prevent your access to the building if your are carrying something which they deem "against the rules". But taking away a $1000+ notebook? That's a serious offense HARDLY
and I wouldn't let it go so easily. File a complain with the school administration, if they don't react, go to the police. I am serious. There are some things which you just can't let slide. THE POLICE WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE, FACT.
You don't have a clue what you're talking about do you...?

Showing how Android is surging ahead is meant to show which OS is winning, but often (as is the case with this report, I believe) they are only looking at phone sales. Because iOS runs on iPads and iPods, Apple's share is higher. I wish we could get more concrete evidence on this.

Your OS isn't "winning" when it's being likened to Windows. It's no compliment. Licensed to anyone who can slam together a box with User Experience as varied as the handset models that run it doesn't make Android a winner.
It just makes it generic.

The product is undoubtedly real, but announcing it in December, or even at MWSF in January, would be the height of stupidity. They'd miss the Christmas buying season and piss off both the buyers and recipients of new iPods. That's probably 20 million people in the US alone who would be angry with Apple.I think most people buying ipods would be those GIVING gifts. At that point, the person getting the gift is happy and the one giving is likely a grandma or parent who's not going to be really following when the next generation of ipod is coming out.
We few, we band of brother macrumor types, would be pissed, but I don't think the average person.

I'm not a thrifty person by nature, so it says plenty that I refuse to pay the prices they're asking for these mags on the iPad. It really is that simple. Make them $1.99 and sales will go through the roof.

To the English fellows... am I right in thinking the match is sold out? And is the country showing interest?
It's Ashes fever to be honest and the test has replaced our hopeless national football team on the back pages. People have been buying tickets on ebay for 500 a pop! Getting emails from the most unlikely people on it too. Could do for cricket what our World Cup Rugby win did for that sport, if we were to win of course ;)
Good luck to both sides though, it's a hell of a series and I cannot believe Warne's bowling. He's well on course to completely smash his 1993 wicket haul.
Also, Just been told to turn my radio off at work :( guess it's score card reliance then....

Somebody told me the old shuffle automatically converted songs into 128kbs AAC while you are adding it to the shuffle, even if they were of a much higher bitrate or saved in another format. I wonder if the new one does the same thing. It would be nice to keep my songs ALAC on my harddisk without wasting too much memory when I add it to the shuffle, where sound quality does not matter much.
The feature is part of iTunes, so I'm sure it's still there.
My new iPod Shuffle is not going to ship until the end of October No.....
Why are you mad? That's what they announced, shipping October.

I'll be at MWSF all week. Where are people meeting?
Don't think we've decided yet. IJ suggested the seating area of the South Hall and I'm inclined to trust him since he's planned stuff like this before but nothing definite as of now.
This is one area where a booth may be helpful. Hint hint... ;)
I'm down for afternoon scheduling/meetups since I can work in the mornings that week if I can be arsed to get up early.

I bet they make some of that back with deals made with the power companies. These things need to be plugged in.
Not really, but it would be stupid for a buyer not to though.

google didn't win, they just commoditized the smartphone market like intel/ms/dell/hp commoditized the PC market so long ago
So you're saying that the Wintel camp didn't win? I'm pretty sure they did ... let me check ... yep, they crushed market share and revenues when compared to Macs. Sounds like winning to me.
with iOS 4 and Android 2.2 the software can do pretty much what most people expect of a smartphone. no reason to pay iphone prices for a phone since companies that don't care about margins are now getting into the game. happens in almost every market.
Woe be unto he who bases future technology developments on what is available today.
with the iPad apple has such huge sell numbers that they can take advantage to sell cheap. with smartphones the carriers and manufacturers play games where the profit is made on google ad sharing, insurance, etc
they're not selling cheap, they're making more per unit than their competitors who charge more to the end user. it's because they are smart about supply pricing and have their own retail chain that they're able to realize big profit with a (relatively) low price tag.

Worked great at home. At work I can connect and schedule and watch live tv, but recorded shows all return a "this video is not compatible" when trying to play, even after they were exported to the "best" and "iphone" format.

Let's see, I have a few dozen things I'd like to see:
- (S)FTP-mountable volumes that you can WRITE to.
- Faster spotlight. I really wouldn't mind, but they got me believing it'd be "instant", and really it's just "fast" right now.
- A "calculate folder sizes" in the finder that acutally applies to all windows.
- A few more display options for files in finder. That "Group By People" one in Spotlight is kinda clever. A large tile mode would be good.
- Folders in the Finder that hint about what's inside. LIke a folder full o' word docs would have a word doc icon imposed on the folder.
- A whole new Label system that is A) Not ugly and B) color customizable
- A new dock, or at least a new dock feature! Or, at least avoiding the situation where an item dragged to the trash accidently gets a permanent home on the dock instead. The dock is, like, 10.1 technology
- resolution independence, of course. I want to zoom out a bit.
- an optional grey, translucent layer below the current app that makes all background windows a bit more in the background. I get confused if I can't see the traffic lights.

Kind of looks like America is an empire, doesn't it? America has a military presence all around the world. That's like Rome who had a military presence all around the then known world. At the beginning of 2000, America was so powerful and had so much money under Bill Clinton's control, that if it wanted to, they could have taken over the whole world.
If your point is that the US is overdeployed and has a military presence in countries it certainly has no place being, that is well-taken.
That said, there is a difference in "ruling" a territory (as I take the definition you quoted to mean) and simply having boots on the ground.

I'd like to see a sample in Silicon Valley. There's such a large concentration of computer users and this is the leading technical area. When I walk down University Avenue in Palo Alto, I always see people with Apple laptops in coffee shops and other places. I am thinking if more people in Silicon Valley change to Apple branded laptops, then other area's will follow since these are the tech savvy people. I don't think will see much in the financial sector for some time as there's not much software that works on the Mac.

Everyone I know either has an iPhone or wants an iPhone. I even know a slew of Apple-loathing PC fanboys who have iPhones and HATE that they have iPhones, but love the iPhones so much.
Most people wanting an iPhone, that I know, don't have a problem with the $199 price tag, but with the 2-year plan and cost per month. They are generally cell phone non-dependants who have use-as-you-go plans due to lack of consuming need. $120/mo. for everything unlimited is ridiculous. If it was $40/mo. for everything unlimited, I believe cell providers would see a surge in sales. Then again, would that cheap a price provide them profit?
The cost of ownership with an iPhone is what drove me away. Paying 100+ a month for my phone (I got for free when I worked at Apple so I wouldn't have paid that much anyways for it) is crazy to me. I pay 70 a month with Sprint and get unlimited everything including 4G and my EVO was like 200 bucks after rebates. If the iPhone came to Sprint... maybe I'd switch back... maybe I wouldn't.

Apple's attitude about this stuf has always been very positive. I'm totally willing to believe that all this stuff was an oversight since believing that matches what they've said in the past.
GNL, yeah, sure. "It was a bug."
