I expect some sort of wifi feature that lets you make calls using the internet rather than your cell provider, but what service provider would let that happen?
That technology is called UMA and T-Mobile's testing it now.

I swear to God, I hope iDVD isn't gone completely but more integrated into iMovie or something along those lines. iDVD is one of my favorite applications in the iLife suite.
The 64-bit rewrite thing is pretty awesome though. Hopefully iTunes will be a part of that (doubt it though).

Market share is overrated. As long as Apple continues its 2-5% share, they are fine.
What planet are you from?!?!
2-5% market share is "fine" as long as you don't need developers, application programs, component parts for new products (why should Intel, Ati or NVidia sell any of their "hot" new products for very long to such a tiny niche market!), compatibility with other electronic devices (TiVos, printers, cameras, etc.), ... the list goes on and on! (And don't even get into gaming, which still drives alot of computer sales!)

I'm attending the Final Cut Pro Power Tools conference, so you bet your bottom I'm gonna be both there and the keynote. Who knows, I may see some of you in passing, of corse neither of us are gonna know who the other is, so it won't really matter anyways.
Good Expo I hope though.

I like the part of the law that gives fines, and I think jail time to anyone forcing a woman to wear one, but if someone actually wants to wear a veil they should be allowed to do it.

I continue to be amazed by the number of students at my community college that have iPhones. These are students who for the most part are struggling to make ends meet, yet were willing to spend their limited cash that way. There are at least two or three students with iPhones in each of my classes; two years ago, I didn't see any -- and mine was a curiosity to them.
well depends how things are paid for you might be less impressed.
I am a struggling college student but out side of school expenses my only other cost is gas for my car.
That means insurance and phone bill is covered by my parents that frees up a fair amount of resources to get smart phones and from others I talk to in school that is often times a big help parents give is covering cost other than school.
As for smart phones I know at were I go to school the phone that is common on campus depends which college you are in. If it is the computer science and Engineering then iPhone is in the minority. Android rules the roost followed by Blackberry. The iPhone in a class of 30 you will see 2 some times 3. By enlarge it is Android followed by blackberry. iPhone is in the small minority. WP7 I will see out numbering the iPhone soon.
Now if you go to the other building on that has education and business (along with art) rules change and iPhone becomes much more popular.
Now back to us SCE students area a lot of us own iPods and I know the iPads out number the iPhones but for a phone we just do not like iOS end of story. Android is were a lot of the students want to go for.

interesting. hopefully apple will release such a device for more than one carrier off the bat rather than go with an exclusive deal.

This is my MacBook Pro, I pretty much have the same setup on my iMac.

Well done by Jon Stewart... I agree that the iPhone bit lacked research, and I do agree that Gizmodo crossed a line by buying a stolen device. I see Stewart's critique more in the sense of Apple becoming a Big Brother type of company, systematically favoring short term profits over long term customer relations and the high end quality that characterized them, and using its recent somewhat dominant position to push their media tech agenda.
I understand it is a big corporation and thus it behaves like one.... but Apple's loosing a key aspect of what made them successful, and made me loyal to them: the didn't thought of themselves as such and made an effort to keep their soul. Now I wonder what's Apple long term strategy... becoming the next Microsoft? or keep the competitive advantage that made them successful by staying within some limits?

i guess you are right, in Germany we have for example a law to prevent demonstrators from covering their face , for my passport picture i was even asked to take off my glasses because of light ,really light reflections
i am a Biker , i have a a flip up (http://www.motorcycle-crash-helmets.co.uk/images/crash-helmets/mtr-k-10-flip-motorcycle-helmet.jpg) helmet
but even opening it complete i was asked to take it off at a lot of filling stations , despite everybody could see my complete face ,while women with a full veil or burka is not asked to take it off when entering a petrol station

I've been reading through this thread and noticed how nearly everyone is focused on Apple entering the "cell phone" market. I can't believe how the majority of you actually feel that Apple will make a cell phone? And you're all going to ditch your RAZR when it comes out...
Apple is not going to, and will never, enter the cell phone market. They are designing a WiFi phone to compete with the new VoIP phones that are emerging: http://tools.netgear.com/skype/, http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/wireless/0,39020348,39187936,00.htm. Does the name "iChat Mobile" making anymore sense now?
You can quote me on that!

Since we're just hoping and wishing....
It would be really cool if Apple could just skip the cell phone and go straight to satellite phone service.
I know that the major carriers can't do it because the bandwidth is not there for Verizon's 40 million, Cingular's 42 million, or Sprint's 38 million customers, plus the phones are still bulky with huge antennas.
But if the minturization lept forward just a little bit, I would love to have an Apple satellite smartphone with bluetooth connectivity, screw CDMA, TDMA, GSM and all the other 3 and 4 letter words.
What's the max internet speed off of satelite? 700 kbps?
Just dreaming :)
edit: nevermind, I forgot you prolly couldn't use it indoors anyway :(

What an ignorant statement
Those who are serious about piercing do it, not in an attempt for individuality, but as a form of self expression, ritual, culture, beauty and art.
I don't think that was an ignorant statement.
I disagree with you; people do get piercings or tattoos partly to be individual; isn't that what self-expression is? I think another reason people get them is to shock people; especially odd ones.
All he was saying is that so many people have tattoos and piercings now, that is really no longer a symbol of individualism; they have become mass market.
I hear it from a lot of people; to be individual now...you shouldn't have a tattoo or piercing.

2 week bin collections
Forgetting that in the other week they collect recycling?
disliking people who break the law, and enter countries illegally, it's even worse when your own government house them.
Citation needed.
They give the big corporations influence on how my country is to be governed.
If you want to solve that problem join the club. Norway has freely chosen to not be part of the EU, and has to live with the consequences of that. That companies insist on Norway following EU rules before they'll do business with them isn't the EU's fault.

The day the iPhone was introduced, the Smartphone Market became an iPhone-alike Market, and to produce an iPhone-alike phone, you need access to Apple's patents. That's what Nokia is after, or else it's dead. Making-out with Microsoft doesn't give Nokia everything it needs, and leaves it open to litigation: they say that attack is the best form of defence, so Nokia is just doing what it thinks it needs to do to survive.
I have relatives living in various 3rd-world countries, and even the less-well-off wouldn't buy a 3GS, but they are willing to pay top dollar (or the local eq) for the iPhone4.
Tanker-loads of Nokia faithful are dumping their Nokia phones for iPhones and Blackberrys -- even Android has a long fight ahead of it in these (non-geek/techy) markets.
Any credibility you had went out the window when you blatantly revealed your bias in the first sentence.

Aluminum seems to hit the spot when it comes to exterior aesthetics, and that seems to be important to them. Can't see it happening unless they can make carbon fiber look just as good.
