Well, since I don't see it here, I'm going to make an "ooh, ooh, scary" post. I agree that the Nike+iPod bit is just plain lame, but the privacy concerns of this sort of thing are very real, and not to be scoffed at.
Seen Minority Report, anybody? I'm not worried about the many stalkers that want to hunt me down and kill me. I'm afraid of this sort of personally identifiable information being used to turn me into a marketing statistic. I don't even have a Sears card because I don't like being tracked. And, before I start getting any tinfoil hat comments... well, okay, go for it.

I think this law is a Good Thing. It's obvious that a certain subset of Muslims are going to have to dragged into the modern age and it's gotta start somewhere.

oh, HELL no. Please don't tell me you're serious. Can you actually imagine someone carrying around a portfolio of these plates to lay on their computer? That's worse than an 8" floppy!!!
If the bottom half of the device is a touchscreen, you don't have to use physical overlays. You could expand on the concept of the Nintendo DS.
Unfortunately the patent specifically stated "Mechanical overlay" with no mention of a touch screen. I agree, that would be the way to go in order to implement it, but the patent says nothing of the sort.

I'm excited Steve is on board for this book. I just hope it isn't because he is dying and wants to approve of his own book before he dies.

I have one that is dropping calls 1/4 of the time. Was at Apple store. An employee there bought a bumper for his. He sounded frustrated over the dropped calls. You fanboys got to come up with something more that people are morons or whining over it. I assure you this issue is quite real.
I'm leaning towards bad batch and you just happened to get one. If you don't like it you can return it, stop bitching, and get a different phone.

It was good to meet you all. However brief. Sorry I had to run off to meet with my Sister and her bf (they wanted to leave  :( yeah). Thanks again to v (er, Ani) for showing me how to get there, I was kinda lost.
I'll be back tomorrow morning, wandering around on the floor, but I think we're leaving at around 3 something.

iPad 3 is going to have a redesign for sure. Expect more.
Retina Display, no home button, thinner, increase battery life of up to 12hrs.
These are my guesses.
The home button is part of the mechanism for escaping crashes so it would be a bit dumb to have the means of escape software based' ie touch. Also it is useful for device orientation. Further, it is part of the iconic design. Were it to be lost the iPad would like like any other generic slab. I would be amazed and dissapointed if it turned out you were right on that one.

Actually, sake is brewed like beer, not fermented like wine. It does drink like a wine, though. Thus the confusion.
daver, beer requires fermentation the hops is brewed to extract the bitters to add to the fermenting liquid in the vats otherwise you get no alcohol. I know I come from a long family line of brewers, wine makers and moonshiners I know intimately every step from making the mash or wort to the process of distillation. I would like to know how you make beer or any sort of alcohol at all without the fermentation process which is something very essential to the process. Wines require it, liquor requires it, and beer requires it...surprisingly enough even real root beer requires fermentation and that is a stunted process because before it produces a noticeable amount of alcohol it gets bottled to retain the natural carbonation. Even alcohol used for fuel (ethanol) requires fermentation over a period of time before distillation and use as an additive to gasoline. Fermentation doesn't always require yeast to make alcohol either but it is the most efficient and cost effective means for speeding up the process. No confusion here.

The Japanese are very law abiding. They don't even jaywalk.
:D Sort of off topic but just a few days ago I found myself amused by "jaywalking" in front of some cops in Canary Wharf, knowing that in Los Angeles I most certainly would have been ticketed for that. Small novelties!
On topic, I was surprised and yet not about the lack of looting. Japan just seems to show more solidarity in a crisis than what I am accustomed to. Natural disasters and riots bring out the worst in people, from what I witnessed living in L.A. "oooh, everything is destroyed... lets steal a TV!" Repulsive behaviour.

Dolby Digital Surround. If you just have a R/L channel.... its only 1 D. But since Dolby has 5.... 2 back... 3 forward... with the center forward and i different height.... u can get almost 3D sound. I think its a really cool features that dissapointingly won't get taken advantage of enough. Some programs should definetly utilize that. It would be great for a simple maze game where like as ur mouse moves u hear where its going. It'd really be cool beans.
Wow, that does sound like an amazing feature. :)

Only question. Why?
Some say Apple need to buy Netflix. Have those of you even considered what Netflix charges for monthly streaming?
$8
Apple will never let customers eat that much for so little. The day Apple buys Netflix, DVDs would stop, and streaming would go up to $30 a month.
Promised.
Bingo. One trillion in the bank. Magic.

Can also use the gyro / accelerometer to do it, but cool idea.
The demo shows both. The gyro/acceleration works when the iPad is moving and the head is still. The head tracker adds to the effect when the iPad is still and the head is moving. The combination should be quite nice.

I'd like to see the 'shortcuts' from the iOS implemented in OS X. ie: not having to open UPS and copy and paste the tracking number. Just click on the tracking number and go- so brilliant. Let's see it on the desktop.

I pre ordered mine on the 15th at Best Buy around 6. The man there said I was guaranteed an iPhone on launch date and that they would call me a day or 2 before the launch date to schedule an appointment. I get no phone calls on the 22nd and none so far on the 23rd. So I go to my local Best Buy to check out what's goin on. I see the same guy and he is on the phone with an upset customer and I knew what I was in for when I saw that. After taking a break from the call to help me out he explains that he remembers me and that I pre-ordered. But he says they got a lot less phones than they expected. He told me about 80. And then he told me they only got 30 in stock. Also, he would not speculate when they would get their next shipment. If I didn't get on the list, then I feel sorry for the people who pre ordered a few days after me. He said I was #80 or something for just June 15th.
After reading all these stories, I think somethings up at some of these stores. I've read that people have been moved around on the list, not being called, ect. I think some employees could have put friends and family or even took bribes to be put on higher parts of the list. Either way, this Best Buy situation is ridiculous. Apple probably set up lower stock for just this time so people buy from them next time.
I guess the usual "pictures or you're lying statement" isn't applicable here... But on side note, today's word of the day is:
libel
Pronunciation: \ˈlī-bəl\
Function: noun
(1) : a statement or representation published without just cause and tending to expose another to public contempt (2) : defamation of a person by written or representational means (3) : the publication of blasphemous, treasonable, seditious, or obscene writings or pictures
